Foreword – A Bit of a Dry Month
Not much to say this month, honestly! I’ve spent the past few weeks considering what I’d like to write for the March 2025 foreward, but to no avail! I had one idea, but it makes more sense logistically to do it in April, so I fear to say that this month you guys get nothing!
I haven’t been up to a huge amount, either. Still exploring Tokyo and stuff like that, plugging away slowly at this watermelon girl game too, but life has just steadily trundled on. I did get a chance to stop in at a Metaphor: ReFantazio gallery held in Shinagawa! We were randomly walking by and had no idea it was a thing, so that was a nice surprise! I’ll dump some pictures here!
While it was pretty cool to see in person, I’m always sort of split on these events. There was some cool concept art (not shown here because photos of it was forbidden) but nothing you wouldn’t see in an art book down the line, I’m sure. ¥2,500 at the door for entry isn’t suuuuuper expensive, but alongside my wife we did wonder a bit about whether that was quite worth ¥5,000 collectively. The venue was really nice, and the ambient game music that varied throughout made for a nice atmosphere, though! I’ve definitely seen worse (looking at you, shitass Tokyo Solamachi Dungeon Meshi gallery).
I hope I can actually finish Metaphor one of these days! I’m about 20 hours in and the game absolutely kicks ass, but I’ve been spending so much time playing Xenoblade 3 and X that it’s hard to get through another massive JRPG. Actually, before stepping in to the gallery, I basically had to accept spoilers for the full main party roster, haha. Nobody too surprising, thankfully! Anyways, I’ll finish the game one day (400 yet unfinished games in my closet chuckle to themselves)!

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
tl;dr: With smart character-switching gameplay, a unique sense of humor, and a surprisingly heartwarming story, Portrait of Ruin adds a lot to the Igavania template that can sometimes feel quite predictable.
